This post is an example of how I used my writer's block to create something that could be helpful for other writers who are facing the same challenge as me. Let me know if you end up writing something awesome out of your writer’s block!

Remember Talking Stick, the Indigenous Music video series that profiled awesome Indigenous musicians? Well i’ts back for Season 2 this Monday and is featuring Round Dance Singer Darryl Buck!

I miss hearing him say those words while he did this small physical gesture. So now I do it. As much and as often as I can. And I hear his voice when the words leave my lips: “I appreciate you”. And I have no choice but to put my hand on my heart to contain the love and the joy that he taught me to express that I want to share with others. It feels so special - because it is.

How can we improve peoples wellness so that suicide never has to become an option? And as usual, the talking is only the beginning and much more important are the actions we take to move systems to be better.

Not touching things, not coughing/sneezing in public and keeping space from people who may be sick kind of sounds like a good way to be to me. Not because of a virus, but because of respect for other people, because of safety, because of health. Let's include those precautions in whatever the new normal becomes.

This week I shared with those who attended the virtual Annual General Meeting of North End Community Renewal Corporation that we have been in conversation with the owners of the building (the University of Manitoba) to see what we can do. Our next step is going to be setting up a community committee!
