Celebrating Selkirk Avenue Jane’s Walk

Join speaker, author, and community organizer Michael Redhead Champagne on a 1 hour guided tour exploring historic Selkirk Avenue, its stories, and what the built environment tells us about the North End. Topics of conversation include historic buildings, the Winnipeg General Strike, the importance of arts and culture & share actions we can do to support Selkirk Avenue today!

This is a celebration of Selkirk Avenue keeping with the theme "I ❤️ North End", and an invitation to share what participants love about the people, places and experiences they have had here. This walk opens a discussion about the importance of Community Renewal, and a chance to share suggestions on how we can support economic development, and learn about concrete actions being taken towards reconciliation and community revitalization.

Meeting Place

The walk begins at McGregor and Selkirk, just outside of the North End Economic Development Centre. The walk leader will be holding an "I ❤️ North End " sign.

Stops include the Ukrainian Labour Temple (Pritchard and McGregor), Merchants Corner, North End Community Renewal Corporation, The Palace Theatre, university and college buildings, various non profits and businesses.

Accessibility

The sidewalks of Selkirk avenue are primarily smooth and even, however, there will be crossings at various side streets and two controlled intersections. There will be times where participants may need to move off of the sidewalk to make way for pedestrians or cyclists.
