COVID100: Spotlight on the Prairies & The North

June 19, 2020 marks an important day in Canada: 100 days since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic globally. How has this affected the health and well being of our cities in Canada? What adjustments have been locally made that could be shared nationally? What lessons has your city learned?

The answers to these questions and so much more are being addressed by Canadian Urban Institute in a series of live talks across the country. These spotlights will highlight specific things municipalities are doing across Canada to take care of their citizens and ensure the necessary systems are responding to the specific geographical needs. Spotlight on The Prairies & The North

I'm excited to be hosting a panel that invited municipal leaders from Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Yellowknife to talk about how their communities have responded to covid. This free flowing conversation promises to address many topics and I can imagine us discussing many things from community engagement, data, racism, health, system literacy, emergency preparedness, to safety and more! This is a free webinar, but you must register. You are welcome to share the registration link with anyone you think may be interested!

I hope you will all join us on Friday to discuss this important milestone and where we go from here. Please make sure you take a look at the covid100.ca website to check out the panel that's happening in your region! If you are unable to participate, but are still interested in this work, C.U.I. will also be releasing a document on June 19 called “SignPost” summarizing what we know and some important questions we have for cities as we adjust to life during and after the pandemic. Finally, on Monday, I'll be joining my fellow regional leads from C.U.I. in a CityTalk style de-brief about our covid100 adventure and the SignPost document that was also released!

Disclaimer: it needs to be said that no group of 4 or 5 people could ever truly represent the broad diversity of voices represented in places like “the prairies” or “the north”. However, I felt that both regions needed a voice of some sort in this CUI work, in order to participate in this National conversation.
